As an MRI Technologist, you will be part of a collaborative team that includes radiologists, nurses, and other technologists, all focused on safe, accurate, and timely imaging that guides patient treatment. In this role, your typical day will revolve around performing a wide range of MRI examinations while maintaining a calm, reassuring presence for patients. Responsibilities include verifying orders, screening patients for MRI safety, explaining procedures, positioning patients, and selecting appropriate protocols. You will operate sophisticated MRI scanners, manage contrast administration per protocol, monitor patients during the exam, and ensure that images meet diagnostic quality standards. You will document within the electronic medical record and imaging systems, follow safety and infection control policies, and participate in routine equipment checks and quality assurance processes. You can expect exposure to a diverse mix of examinations, including neurologic, musculoskeletal, abdominal, vascular, and oncology-related studies. Depending on the specific site and service line, you may also assist with more specialized procedures such as breast MRI, cardiac MRI, or trauma imaging. Patient acuity can range from ambulatory outpatients to more complex inpatients who may require monitoring and coordination with nursing staff. Staffing and patient volume are structured to balance efficiency with safe, attentive care; you will work with colleagues who understand the demands of MRI workflow and support each other through busy periods. Shifts may include day, evening, or weekend hours depending on department needs, with scheduling designed to maintain consistent coverage while supporting work-life balance. Some locations may offer rotating on-call responsibilities for urgent or emergent studies, providing opportunities to participate in critical diagnostic work. You will have regular interaction with radiologists who are accessible for protocol guidance and case discussion, encouraging ongoing professional growth and learning.
