Job Description & Requirements
Computed Tomography Technologist - (CT Tech)
StartDate: 8/31/2026
Pay Rate: $2492.00 - $2568.00
This CT Technologist position is a day shift role in a busy teaching hospital located in Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham offers a unique blend of Southern charm and modern amenities, with a revitalized downtown, an award-winning culinary scene, and a strong arts and cultural community. The city is home to numerous museums, historic districts, live music venues, and a growing network of parks and green spaces. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy easy access to nearby hiking trails, lakes, and state parks, while sports fans appreciate the city’s deep ties to college athletics and regional events. Birmingham’s cost of living is generally more affordable than many larger metropolitan areas, making it an attractive place to live and work.
The facility is a teaching-focused hospital known for its emphasis on education, collaboration, and evidence-based practice. CT technologists work alongside radiologists, residents, fellows, and multidisciplinary care teams in a supportive environment that values continuous learning and professional growth. The imaging department features modern CT scanners and digital workflows designed to deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging efficiently and safely.
In this day shift position, you will be responsible for performing a broad range of CT procedures, including routine body and neuro CT, CT angiography, and emergent studies for the emergency and inpatient units. A typical day includes coordinating with nursing and providers, verifying orders, reviewing patient histories, explaining procedures, positioning patients, and performing scans according to established protocols. You will be expected to assess image quality, follow contrast administration and radiation safety guidelines, and promptly communicate critical findings through appropriate channels.
Patient volumes are consistent with a high-acuity teaching environment and may include a mix of scheduled outpatients, inpatients, and urgent/emergent cases. CT technologists collaborate closely with radiology nurses, technologists from other modalities, and radiology residents to ensure smooth patient throughput. The department emphasizes patient-centered care, with a focus on clear communication, safety, and comfort throughout the imaging experience.
Day shift hours typically align with standard daytime operations, with some flexibility based on department needs and potential opportunities for additional hours. The teaching hospital setting offers exposure to complex cases, specialized services, and ongoing learning opportunities, making this role ideal for an experienced CT technologist with prior travel and academic medical center experience who is looking to further develop their skills and resume within a dynamic and supportive environment.
